Planning a trip to Maui and want to go hiking? The Hawaiian island offers a variety of scenic hiking trails that range from easy to very challenging.

Maui's hiking trails allow you to experience its diverse landscapes up close. Hike the picturesque coast or dense rainforest, or head to the top of the Haleakala Crater for a Mars-like landscape!

The Pipiwai Trail is one of Maui's most popular hikes. Located a little beyond Hana, this moderate hike takes you through lush rainforest and a grove of towering bamboo.

On the rugged northwest coast, the Kapalua Coastal Trail links two popular beaches. The trail features great ocean views and you can cool off with a swim afterward.

The Sliding Sands Trail in the Summit District of Haleakala National Park is one of Maui's most epic hikes. The full hike is strenuous, and is about 11 miles long.

But hikers that don't want to do the full trail can hike in as far as they like and then retrace their steps to the trailhead. Look for the endangered Hawaiian silversword!

Kuloa Point Trail in Kipahulu is a short and scenic trail with banyan and hala trees and water views. It's family friendly and great if you are time-constrained.
