If you are planning a trip to Kauai, you will want to spend some time at the beautiful beaches on the south shore.

Poipu Beach is considered one of the prettiest beaches in the world. It features golden sand crescents and coconut palms for that tropical paradise vibe.

Poipu Beach is also a good place to observe marine life. Green sea turtles and, occasionally, monk seals, come to rest on this beach.

Shipwreck Beach is another must-visit Kauai south shore beach. You can visit for sunrise or sunset, and watch locals jump off the cliff that juts into the ocean.

Shipwreck Beach is also the starting point of the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail, one of Kauai's most popular hikes. This walk over the bluffs offers stunning views.

In the southwest part of the island is less crowded Salt Pond Beach, a wonderful spot to catch a Kauai sunset.

Salt Pond Beach has a protective reef and is a good beach for swimming and snorkeling when the seas are calm. There are kid-friendly shallow pools too.
