Maui's beautiful beaches are one of the top reasons why it's such a popular destination. The Hawaiian island makes the ideal tropical getaway for couples, families, and solo travelers.

The west side of Maui is lined with a string of golden sand beaches, and many of them are backed by resorts and shops, where it is easy to dine or rent equipment.

Kaanapali Beach is arguably the prettiest beach on Maui, with 3 miles of crescent-shaped gold sands and gorgeous turquoise waters.

Known for its spectacular sunsets, Kaanapali Beach also boasts a waterfront boardwalk and beachside restaurants, perfect for viewing the colorful skies.

Along the lush Road to Hana on the east side of the island is Maui's famous black sand beach, officialy Pa'iloa Beach (or Honokalani Beach). It is located within Wa'inapanapa State Park.

The black sand beach requires reservations, but the scenery and the many things to do in the park are worth the effort: sea arches, a cave, and a blowhole are must-sees.

Maluaka Beach is a golden sand beach in South Maui that's part of the stretch of coast known as Turtle Town: sightings of Hawaiian green sea turtles are very common here.

Hookipa Beach Park, near Paia, is the place to go in winter to watch massive waves. The beach is popular with surfers and kitesurfers, and you may see turtles on the sand here.
